Case Study: Best Version Media

The Calm Center of a Monthly Deadline

Client: Beth Lachmuth, Publisher · Best Version Media (Lakeview Living Magazine)

Role: Content Coordinator & Writer

Scope: Nine published issues; interviews, content, event curation, and multi-party coordination

Snapshot

Lakeview Living was a neighbourhood magazine built on local stories—the families, businesses, and quiet heroes of West Kelowna. Producing it every month meant pulling together a publisher, an editor, a graphic designer, a photographer, local businesses, and feature families, then turning all of that into a finished issue, on time, every time.

I was the point where all of it came together. Across nine issues, I conducted the interviews, wrote the feature stories, curated the monthly events, and coordinated communication between every person involved, so that a process with a lot of moving parts produced a calm, dependable result on a fixed monthly deadline.

The Situation

A monthly publication is a recurring deadline that never moves. Each issue depended on several people who each held one piece of the whole: the publisher’s direction, the editor’s review, the designer’s layout, the photographer’s images, the businesses being featured, and the families being interviewed. None of those people worked in the same place or on the same schedule.

What the magazine needed was a reliable center—one person who could hold the relationships, keep the pieces moving in the right order, and make sure nothing fell through between hands. It needed someone who could both create the content and keep the workflow turning.

What I Did

I served as the focal point of communication for each issue—the person who kept publisher, editor, designer, photographer, contributors, and feature families connected and moving toward the same monthly finish line.

The work had two sides that had to function together. On the content side, I interviewed feature families and local businesses, taking the time to genuinely get to know each one, then crafted personalized stories from detailed notes—pieces specific enough that families saw themselves in them. I also researched and built a curated monthly events list to give readers something timely and useful in every issue.

On the coordination side, I managed the flow of work between everyone involved, gathering each contribution and bringing it together into the final draft of each issue.

The result was a repeatable monthly rhythm: interviews, content, coordination, and publication, turning over dependably, month after month.

The Result

Nine issues, delivered on a consistent monthly cadence. Several interviews and a steady stream of community stories that readers connected with—and that the featured families valued personally.

The proof that the system worked came from the people it served.

Feature families regularly sent unsolicited praise about their stories. And the publisher’s own assessment speaks to what mattered most: not just that the content was good, but that the whole process stayed calm and on time, issue after issue.

Beth’s Words

"When she came on board as our Content Coordinator/Writer… all these first impressions only got better. Elina is reliable, dedicated and eternally upbeat. Her ability to remain calm and get everything completed for our monthly deadlines was very much appreciated and valued…

Of particular value to me was Elina’s team player mindset, enthusiastic embrace of change, ability to work independently and unwavering commitment to exceeding expectations. I regularly received unsolicited praise from feature families commending Elina’s outstanding personal feature family stories. Elina is organized and diligent, she learns new technology quickly. She has my highest recommendation."

The Skill Underneath

On the surface, coordinating a magazine looks different from building backend systems for a service business. But underneath, it's the same work: taking something with many moving parts and a lot of people, and making it run calmly, dependably, and on time.

A recurring monthly deadline with several different contributors is a workflow. Keeping every handoff from falling through the cracks is operations. Being the calm, reliable center that a busy process can organize itself around is exactly the kind of work I do for the businesses I support.

What this work shows is that I adapt to what each client actually needs. For Lakeview Living, that meant being both the writer and the coordinator. For an operations and clarity client, it means building the systems and pathways that keep their business turning. The skill underneath—bringing order and calm to something with a lot of moving parts—is the same. I simply shape it to fit the client in front of me.

Nothing breaks if you do nothing.

It just stays in your head. Thirty minutes, free, and no pitch.

If I am not the right person for what you need, I will tell you.
